playground SDK 5.0 beta
In order to build games against 5.0, you'll need to upgrade your development environment. Playground 5 builds with Visual Studio 2008 or XCode 3.1.
A few things to look for in the sample:
New texture atlas support. Multiple textures are combined at runtime into a single texture to increase rendering speed and decrease video RAM usage.
A background loading thread—try aborting the Flash movie immediately on startup to see a (programmer-art!) loading screen. If you don't abort the Flash movie, the small number of assets in the sample are simply loaded while you watch the intro.
TinyXML is now included with Playground SDK™, and Lua 5.1 is also standard.
Unicode string support has been improved.
